Up Pompeii by Miles Tredinnick

How to follow our successful spring production of Arthur Miller’s powerful drama, The Crucible?

Go from the sublime to the ridiculous, of course, and that is what Playgoers are doing in the autumn at Hull Truck with the stage version of TV favourite ‘Up Pompeii’.

Specially written for Frankie Howerd by Miles Tredinnick, all the much-loved characters originally created by Talbot Rothwell and Sid Colin are present and politically incorrect.

There’s the Sextus family – hypocritical senator Ludicrus, his wife Ammonia, blossoming daughter Erotica and naïve, butterfly-collecting son Nausius – all to be kept out of trouble by long-suffering head slave Lurcio.

Then there’s slave trader Captain Treacherous and his sidekick Kretinus, city sinner Suspenda, and Senna the soothsayer, who is always getting her predictions wrong. Or is she? And what is that ominous rumbling? Woe, woe and thrice woe!
